Ruth Eluned Madoc-Jones is a professional theatre artist and educator working in theatre, dance and (new) opera in Canada at established theatres, conservatories and academic institutions for over 30 years.
Ruth was born in Bangor, Wales and grew up on the West Coast of British Columbia. She has worked nationwide with theatre companies and artists in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. Her original work with Blah-Blah Troupe, Nunzinred and Les Vaches established Ruth as an important and innovative creative force in Canadian performance merging of text-based theatre and physical creation focusing on feminist, queer, darkly comic and social justice themes.
For over 20 years, Ruth has taught acting, directing, and playwriting at various universities and conservatories including The National Theatre School of Canada, Toronto Metropolitan University, Humber College and Bishop's University; and led workshops in new play developement and collective creation at theatres and festivals including Nightwood, Cahoots, Native Earth, and Theatre Passe Muraille, and The Groudswell, Rhubarb!, SummerWorks and Paprika Festivals. Ruth completed the Bell Media Television Writing Program at the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto and received her Master's from the Centre for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies at the University of Toronto.
Ruth won the K.M. Hunter Directing Award and the John Hirsch Directing Award. She graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada and the Canadian Film Centre. She has her MA from the University of Toronto Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies.
